ROUTE 66: Genesis

Join us this year on a journey through the 66 books of the Bible…one book each week. Check out our posts each Monday with selected readings each day.
THIS WEEK: Genesis
KEY WORD: Beginnings

KEY VERSE: “So God created man in His own image. In the image of God He created him. Male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27

PURPOSE: To record God’s creation of the world and show the Lord’s desire to have a relationship with His people.

SUMMARY: Genesis records the beginnings of human history. The first eleven chapters introduce the Creator God and the beginning of life, sin, judgment, family, worship and salvation. The remainder of the book focuses on the lives of four patriarchs – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph – from whom will come the nation of Israel and ultimately the Savior, Jesus Christ.

APPLICATION: Genesis answers basic questions like “Where did I come from?” and “Why am I here?”. Knowing those answers can give our lives meaning in a world that’s hard to figure out.
